So, how do I fit into the creative industry?

There was a time when it was pretty much a given that you had to have talent in writing or art to work in the creative industry. For sure these talents are still critical but now there is good news for the rest of us. The creative industry has changed in response to our connected, digital world. Now data driven creativity and visual storytelling are also keys to success. 

 

This means that if you slay on Twitch and are deeply curious to learn how games are designed and built – we have a place for you. If you are a numbers wonk, if you love to dig into data for the nuggets of knowledge –  you are welcome. Are you good at getting stuff done or rallying people to your ideas? Do you find yourself wanting to know why people do the things that they do? How about social media and influencers – are you in the know? Are you into AI, UX, coding? No matter your abilities or interests, there is a a place for you to work in the creative field. You'll be in the company of people who are like you and many more who are not. And it is this kaleidoscope of talent that makes working in the creative industry such and amazing career choice.

The Lions in the Desert Competition brief is from a brand that has received national recognition. In the span of 24-hours you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Collaborate with like-minded students from across ASU, and grow your skills doing impactful work.
     

  • Raise your profile in the industry with direct access to the client, creative leaders from top agencies, and businesses from across the Phoenix valley.
     

  • Pitch your ideas to the Lions in the Desert 2024 jury.
     

  • Win accolades and awards.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING WHEN

2 Days of Awesome

You'll apply to participate and ASU faculty will work with Lions in the Desert leadership to create up to 10 cross disciplinary teams of 8 students each. 

If you are selected to participate you agree to attend Lions in the Desert Career Expo + Experience in its entirety. This is from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM on Monday, October 14 and 8:30 AM  – 7:15 PM on Tuesday, October 15. Breakfast, Lunch, and Snacks provided both days. Light reception fare will be provided during Tuesday night's career expo.

WHAT YOU'LL PRESENT TO THE LIONS IN THE DESERT JURY

In answer to the brief your team will create an Immersive Brand Experience that includes:


Key Insights + Strategy:  Evidence based (backed by data) insights and a strategic "North Star" guiding idea that can be manifested in a myriad of ways across media. 


Media: Map a series of immersive brand experiences, rooted in the team’s creative insight and strategy, across existing and emerging media channels. Include IRL (In Real Life), Online, and PR encounters.

 

Digital: Digital executions that incorporate two social media platforms in new and exciting ways.

 

PR: Ideas that are effective in engaging audiences in brave and bold ways. Connect with audience core values, increase awareness, and boost relations with relevant stakeholders. 

 

Film + Music: An original idea for a 30-second work in response to your team’s creative insight + strategy + north star. Film your footage and edit it into a captivating content.
